Chandigarh to Manali Taxi

Chandigarh to Manali is now mostly a four-lane drive. The taxi leaves via Kharar and Kurali to Ropar and Kiratpur Sahib, then joins the Kiratpur–Ner Chowk highway. Its tunnels and bypasses skip the old climb through Swarghat and Bilaspur town. After Sundernagar and Mandi, the road follows the Beas past Pandoh Dam, goes through the Aut tunnel and runs up the Kullu valley to Manali. It takes about 8 hours with stops.

The overnight Volvo is the usual alternative. A taxi picks you up from your door in Mohali, Panchkula or any sector, lets you see the valley in daylight, and stops when you want. Leave at 6 am to clear Mandi before the afternoon traffic and reach Manali before dark. The stretch after Kullu is slow in the evening.

Himachal charges an entry tax on outside-state taxis at the border barrier, and it is added at actuals. In the monsoon (July to mid-September), landslides have closed the Mandi–Kullu stretch more than once, so we check the road the night before and may suggest moving your date.

Snow usually arrives in late December. Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel side are the most reliable places to see it. After heavy snowfall, roads beyond Manali can close or need chains, so keep a spare day in winter plans.
