About the drive
From Chandigarh the taxi heads south-east through Panchkula, then via Naraingarh or Ambala to Yamunanagar. It crosses into Uttar Pradesh towards Saharanpur and reaches Haridwar via Roorkee or Bhagwanpur. In normal traffic it takes about 4½ hours.
Many tricity families make this journey for asthi visarjan or pind daan at Har Ki Pauri and Kushavarta Ghat. On these trips we keep the plan simple: an early start, a direct drop as near the ghats as traffic rules allow, the driver waiting while the rituals are done, and the drive home the same day. For the evening Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri, reach Haridwar by around 5 pm to find a place on the ghats. Rishikesh is 25 km further, about 45 minutes, and from May to October Haridwar is also the starting point for Char Dham journeys.
The one season to plan around is the Kanwar Yatra in Shravan (usually July–August). For about two weeks, highways through Saharanpur, Roorkee and Haridwar have heavy foot traffic, diversions and vehicle restrictions. If your dates fall in that window, ask us first; we may suggest another route or another day.

Can we add Rishikesh to the trip?
Yes. Rishikesh is about 45 minutes beyond Haridwar. Laxman Jhula, the Triveni Ghat aarti and Neelkanth Mahadev can be added as an extra day or a long same-day round trip.
What time should we reach Haridwar for the Ganga aarti?
Aim to reach by about 5 pm. The aarti at Har Ki Pauri is around sunset, and the ghats fill up early, especially on weekends and festival days.
